It's that time again - EAA AirVenture is here and the world once again is reminded there is a town in Wisconsin named Oshkosh. Even the Early Show on CBS will be broadcasting from there one day this week. Named "The World's Greatest Aviation Celebration" began today, July 23, and will run through July 29. For this week in July, Wittman Field in Oshkosh, Wisconsin is known as the "world's busiest airport" with planes of all types flying in from all over the world.

Manufacturers will bring their latest prototypes to display, there will also be seaplanes, old war planes, helicopters, B-2 Stealth Bomber fly-by, air shows, workshops, airplane rides, KidVenture - even concerts on the grounds - including the Beach Boys - to enjoy as one walks the grounds to take in all that's available. The Goodyear Blimp known as "Spirit of Goodyear" which was christened and placed into service in 2000, will be at EAA for the whole week - this is the first time since 1988 a Goodyear blimp has been at the event.

Along with AirVenture comes other adventures. The headlines read,
"WWII-era plane takes low route to Wisconsin air show". The North American T-6G plane called "the pilot maker" was en route to Oshkosh when it had to make an emergency landing on U.S Hwy 41 around 8 p.m. Sunday night due to engine problems - creating quite a traffic snarl. One patrolman had stopped to help a crippled mobile home with a flat tire and another patrolman had stopped about 400 feet behind the mobile home in order to slow down traffic. The plane cleared the mobile home by about 5-10 feet and landed between the two patrol cars - with the second car capturing it all on video. Even though Highway 41 is a busy highway, especially on Sunday night, the only injuries suffered were to the plane when it's wing clipped some highway signs - and those can be repaired.

And so begins the week of the "World's Greatest Aviation Celebration"
